Like crowns, bridges cover the entire visible surface of your tooth. As the name implies, however, a bridge is intended to span a gap where a tooth is missing. Thus, a bridge is merely 2 or more crowns fused together and is used for replacing missing teeth.
Unlike a partial denture, which is also made to replace missing teeth, a bridge is a fixed device and is not taken in and out. Suppose you have an empty space between two teeth and Dr. Palmer feels that a bridge is best for you. The teeth on either side of the gap will each have crowns placed on them. In the empty space, there will be another crown that hovers just above or slightly touching the gum since there is no tooth underneath. This crown is fused to the crowns on either side of the gap.
The same strong and natural-looking materials Dr. Palmer employs with crowns are also well-suited for bridges. So you can be sure that your bridge will be incredibly strong and incredibly lifelike!
